Can Alcohol be Brought into Put-in-Bay Hotels?

Yes. All the Put-in-Bay hotels and resorts listed on our site allow occupants to bring alcohol into their private quarters. Please note that alcoholic beverages may not be brought into poolside or walk-up bars in accordance with liquor license rules.

Is Put-in-Bay a Party Destination?

How do you get to Put in Bay?

There are only two ferry services to Put-in-Bay Island, the Miller Ferry and the Jet Express. Both ferries leave Port Clinton, Ohio, and arrive on the island in roughly 20 minutes; then, you can grab a taxi or rent a golf cart to get around. Is there a Grocery & Beer / Liquor Store At Put-in-Bay

Yes! There is a full-service grocery on the Island on Catawba Avenue next to Tippers called the Island General Store. The Beverage Center is just next door. They sell Beer & Wine only. There is no liquor store. The Put-in-Bay Hardware Store also has a good selection of grocery items and is located by the Post Office on Langram Road, just a few blocks from town.

Do I Need Reservations for the Put-in-Bay Ferry?

No! The Put-in-Bay ferry boat services run on a first-come, first-served basis operating as frequently as one boat every 15 minutes during the prime season and one boat every hour in the off-season. Should I Bring My Car To The Island

We advise that you do NOT bring an automobile to the Island. Aside from the high expense associated with ferrying your vehicle across the water on a boat, parking is minimal on the Island. Waiting to get a car on or off the Island can run as long as three hours or longer! Most of the more popular Put-in-Bay Hotels and resorts are located in downtown Put-in-Bay and are just a short walk from the Jet Express and an enjoyable golf cart ride to most attractions.

When is Put-in-Bay Open Or Closed For The Season

From November to March, much of Put-in-Bay is closed. The ferries either stop running or run a minimal schedule. Lake Erie freezes over, and the island becomes a sleepy community of under 500 residents for the winter months. Reservation arrivals begin for the year in early April when fishermen flock to the island from all around the country to take part in the walleye hatch. Bachelor & Bachelorette parties flock to the island beginning in April to celebrate their upcoming nuptials. You may contact us if you have specific dates to inquire.

Yes! During selected parts of April, September, and October, you may be able to book a one-night stay on weekends. All hotels require a 2-night (some are 3-night) stay on weekends. Sunday thru Thursday, hotels will accept single-night stays unless there is a special event. The hotels, resorts & home rentals located in the downtown area book p first, as everyone wants to be near the main strip. The most popular hotel is the new Put-in-Bay Resort Hotel. The hotels in the downtown area sell out first as it is where most people want to stay. For rental homes, the Put-in-Bay Villas located downtown are the most luxurious. All have either 4 or 5 bedrooms and three full bathrooms and are the only modern rental homes on the island. The easier question is, what is there NOT to do? Put-in-Bay has everything from on-island to mid-air and even activities high above the ground! Zip across the water on a Put-in-Bay Jet Ski Rental, Travel to the top of the moment, or to the bottom of Perry’s cave. The events themselves are generally free of charge. “Events” at Put-in-Bay generally are themes for a particular week or weekend. What Time Do The Bars Close At Put-in-Bay

As an all-around tradition, most downtown pubs close around 1:30 am. The Island has a few late-night bars: The Brewery, The Green Room, and Mr. Ed’s Bar & Grill. These bars stop serving alcohol at 2:00 am and ask any remaining customers to leave by 2:30 am. At this moment, places like Lesters Taco Shop & the Put-in-Bay Pizza Company get VERY busy!

Put-in-Bay Restaurants are privately owned and typically open and close at the start and end of the season. Topsy Turvey and Reel Bar are generally open all or part of the offseason. How Do People Get Back & Forth In The Winter?

When the ferryboats cease operating, several charter airlines that fly in and out of Put-in-Bay. Look to Griffing Flying Service and Island Air Taxi for your winter island transportation needs. There are no landing lights at the Put-in-Bay Airport, so charters are only able to fly during daylight hours. The only exception to this is LigeFlight.

Does Put-in-Bay Have A School?

Yes! Put-in-Bay has a K thru 12 school in the downtown area. The school hosts students come from all the central Bass Islands and even once in a while from the mainland. The children from Middle Bass Island arrive on a school boat when available or by airplane when Lake Erie is iced over. They often take boats or planes to compete in sporting and education off-island events.

Put-in-Bay History played an important role in the War of 1812 as the backdrop of the squadron of U.S. naval commander Oliver Hazard Perry, who departed from the port on September 10, 1813, to confront a British unit just north of the island in the famous Battle of Lake Erie.
