BIRTHS-Lincoln Alexander Boyed was born on August 22 to elated parents Dustin and Jacqueline Boyed (PIBHS Class 2005). At birth, Lincoln weighed 7 lb 11 oz and was 21.5 inches. Grandparents are Mark and Karen Wilhelm of the South Bass Island and Janet Bucher of Springfield, Ohio. The Boyeds reside in Dayton. Lincoln, meaning “home by the lake,” had his first island visit this fall for his baptism on Sunday, October 14th, at Mother of Sorrows. Godparents are Douglas Wilhelm (uncle of Lincoln) and Heather Wechta (aunt of Lincoln).

MARRIED- Alex Karr & Rian F. Timbs Best wishes to Alex Karr, Put-in-Bay High School Class of 2009, and Rian Timbs from Norwalk, who were married on Saturday, Oct. 14th at Karr’s barn on Muskelunge Creek in Fremont. Alex is the son of Rod and Sue Karr of Langram Rd. He is a welder at Pegusus. The ceremony was conducted by Dylan Fain, Nikki (Karr) Fain’s husband who became licensed and ordained just for the wedding.

Brandon Eger & Alysia Davison-Put-Bay News Reports On September 10th, 2017, Brandon Eger and Alysia Davison have married at Oak Point gazebo. Brandon is the son of Russ and Nancy Eger of Stow, OH, and grandson of longtime West Shore summer resident Gill Terry. Alysia is the daughter of Tami and Patrick Davison of Gallipolis, OH. Brandon has worked at The Roundhouse for nine years, Alysia has worked at the Forge, Pasquale’s and now at RHB. News of another island love story!

Our best wishes on the news that Conor Blumensaadt and Alexandra Urge (Put-in-Bay High School Class of 2011) who were married at the Anchor on Saturday, Oct. 14th in a beautiful lakefront ceremony. Among the wedding party were Mette Blumensaadt, Erin Urge, Zoe Kate, Miyah Uszak, Leah Market, Janine Cerny, Jillian Sobek, Lena Pepe, Juliette Pepe, Andy Blumensaadt, Reid Scott, Zoly Urge, Dan Sexton, Michael Jensen, Andy Blumensaadt and Nikolai Blumensaadt. The best man was Gage Auger. Before the reception, on the lakefront at the Anchorage, the couple and the wedding party rode on the old Deluge fire truck through the downtown. The couple will be honeymooning in Africa.

Art Boyles & Celestine Collier- Best wishes to Arthur F. “Art” Boyles III and Celestine H. Collier, who were married in the DeRivera Park Gazebo on Sunday, Oct. 1st. The ceremony was followed by a small reception at the Park Hotel. Art ran the South Bass Island State Park for many years and later opened and operated a bike shop here on the island. Celestine is a native of Pennsylvania who worked in the New Jersey Attorney General’s office and then in the governor’s office. The couple resides in Florida in the winter.

OBITUARIES- We received news from Fort Myers Barbara A. Wanenmacher Barbara A. “Barb” Wanenmacher, former owner of the Bird’s Nest Resort, passed away in Fort Myers, Florida, on September 8th in Fort Myers, FL. Barb was a native of Pennsylvania where she attended Kittanning High School. She attended Penn State University in McKeesport. While she and her husband Bob, aka Bird, were members of Cleveland Yacht Club, they raced their sailboat, Super Bird, in many I-LYA regattas. In the early 1980s, they founded and built the Bird’s Nest Resort on Airport Rd. The Wanenmachers were members of Put-in-Bay Yacht Club for many years. Bob passed away in 2008, and Barb left the operation of the resort to her son, Steve Elliott. The property was sold last year and is now owned and operated by Brad and Angie Ohlemacher. Among the survivors are her son Steve Elliott of Put-in-Bay and daughter Susan Brown of State College, PA, and three grandchildren, Tyler and Claire Elliott and Paula Brown.

James Edward “Jim” Herbster-James Edward “Jim” Herbster passed away on October 12, 2017 at age 84. He was preceded in death by his parents Adam E. Herbster and Lucy Herbster (Tilley) and an infant son Merrill Paul. Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio. Jim graduated from Dublin High School, Dublin, Ohio. He won trophies in football and also played basketball for Dublin. Jim was a fan of OSU football and would give commentaries on the games – like – we used that play in high school! He ran a 50 yard touchdown on one of the Dublin games and commented on that when an OSU player ran numerous yards. He also cheered and booed the OSU basketball games. Jim was in the army for two years and went into the landscape business after being discharged, with his dad Adam and continued the business after his father’s death. He retired at age 70 and he and his wife, Nancy, moved to Barefoot Bay, Florida. Jim was interested in history and collected antiques. He also had a collection of Put-in-Bay memorabilia which is now in the Lake Erie Islands Historical Society in Put-in-Bay. Jim is the grandson of Herman Alex Herbster and nephew of Otto Herbster of Put-in-Bay. He is survived by wife Nancy, son Mark (April), Daughter Melanie Corson, son Kerry, and daughter Mindy Fisher, grandchildren Angela Corson (Steven Black) Hannah Herbster and Andrew Herbster,

Luther “Luke” A. Fox, Jr., 71, of Fremont, OH passed away with his family by his side on Monday, September 4, 2017. He was born
March 23, 1946 in Fremont, the son of Luther A. and Estella (Pressler) Fox, Sr. Luke served in the Ohio Army National Guard. He owned and operated Fox Painting & Papering for 53 years and was co-owner of Shellukes Bar in Fremont. For years, Luther and his crews painted on Put-in-Bay. Luther’s son, Jeff, now runs the business. He enjoyed working on cars, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He loved the sun, wintering in Florida and was a University of Michigan fan. Luke is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Judy L. (Hoffman) Fox, Fremont, OH; sons, Craig (Stephanie) Fox, Belton, SC and Jeffery (Melissa) Fox, Fremont, OH; siblings, Marietta Yeager, Fremont, OH, Janet Kieffer, Kansas City, MO, Marjorie Walters, Fremont, OH, Charles Fox, Leigh Acres, FL andTina Holland, Fremont, OH; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorials can be made to the Fremont V.F.W. Post #2947 or to the American Cancer Society.
