Senior Center News November 2017 All The Local Fun

November is full of family, friends, beautiful memories, and Thanksgiving. This will be a planning month for all the Holiday festivities that go on here at the Senior Center in December. Most of our snowbirds are gone, but our attendance numbers remain good. Our calendar remains full of regularly scheduled activities: Aerobic Dance, Strength Training, Coffee Socials, Aquamotion, Yoga, Mah Jongg, Trivia Night, Bridge/Duplicate Bridge, and our senior lunches.

We also try to include a “Soup and a Show’” night or similar activity at least once a month during the offseason. They’re often not planned far enough in advance to make this publication, so keep an eye out for postings of these special events at the senior center and post office.

October Fun!-The seniors enjoyed a fun “Cider Press Potluck” with excellent homemade food and fabulous fresh pressed cider from all the island apples. Many of the younger Put-in-Bay school students and staff members visited the Senior Center to help put apples into the press and learn how cider is made. It takes a lot of time and work to put on this event. Many thanks to all who collected apples, moved the press equipment into position, and worked so hard for hours pressing apples into cider.November Senior Center News November 2017 Photo

Our “Fall Barn Social” with live entertainment also was a great success. A special shout-out goes to Dave Gundlach for opening his barn for all of us to enjoy this time together. Finally, we had fun passing out yummy treats on Halloween to all the island Trick or Treaters.

Senior Lunches-Our Senior Lunches are served at 12 noon every Thursday at Tippers Steakhouse & Seafood. Please make your reservation by 12 pm on Wednesday either by signing up at the Senior Center or calling the center at (419) 285-5501. This is important as we must let Tipper’s kitchen know the lunch count by 12 pm Wednesday so they can plan accordingly for these delicious & fun senior lunches!

Center Closed Election Day-Please note that The Senior Center will be closed for all activities on Tues. Nov. 7th, as the facility will be in use for Election Day. Voting hours are 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The center will also be closed on November 10th in observance of Veterans Day and on November 24th and 25th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

If anyone can save the little “tabs” used to open the top of pop/soda cans, we are collecting them for the Ronald McDonald House in Cleveland, Ohio. Please feel free to drop them off at the Senior Center.

American Legion Lunches-We are honored to host the Legion Lunches every third Thursday of the month. We are looking for people willing to volunteer to help serve the lunch, make dessert, and/ or clean up afterward. Please help us support our veterans.

Thank You-As, usual; I cannot thank enough all the people who volunteer their time willingly & help with so many tasks here at
the Senior Center. You know who you are…Thank you so much!!! I wish everyone to enjoy this month of Thanksgiving

and give thanks to all the people and moments in our lives that mean so much to us.
