Our buddies living in western PA have been attempting to see Put In Bay for years, and we eventually made it for a weekend. We took Miller's Ferry in late September because Jet Express was running on a limited agenda. Besides, Miller's Ferry is less money, and Lime Kiln Dock was closer to where we were staying near the island's south end. Free parking at Miller's Ferry can be found in the nearest lot, so get there earlier before it fills up. A large bus takes you from Lime Kiln dock to downtown but does not stop along the way. Smaller taxi buses for $3/pp will take you just about anywhere on the island. The island is small (3 miles long and 1.5 miles wide) and very navigable by bicycle or golf cart, so there is no need to pay high ferry prices to take your automobile over. The highlight was seeing the Stone Laboratory, a part of Ohio State University. stone laboratories offers many interesting courses.

We vacation at South Bass Island every year at least one time, usually for a lengthy weekend, and have always had a great time seeing the Stone Laboratory. The fun starts with an enjoyable ferry ride on Miller Ferry, which leaves from the northern tip of Catawba Island (not an island) near Port Clinton, OH. The ferry leaves on the southern end of the island while the middle of the island's activity is Put-In-Bay at the north end, so one will want to lease a golf cart from Put-in-Bay Golf Cart Rentals website before departing for the island or if one does not intend to embark too far from downtown and does not care about walking a bit, take one of the shared taxis (usually 15 person vans) to downtown for about $3. Other options include bicycle or moped rentals. Note that an auto pass to South Bass Island is limited for visitors, but renting a golf cart is fine as the most popular alternative is much more fun.

We only spent a day here, but I plan to return to spend longer! Many reviews said this location was best for adults because of all the pubs, but we went early in the day and stayed until eight without seeing any intoxicated individuals or debauching. Excellent location to take children. Rent a golf cart for the day! Please do it! Too far to ride bikes, and you'll get much more accomplished than if you walked. Drive outside of the sightseer zone and see all of the unique houses on the island. It's a lot of fun! The restaurants are great! Kayaking was a ton of fun Park the golf cart rental at the northern tip of the island and walk along the beach. There are some paths you'll find, TAKE THEM! It was pretty fun roaming around, and we found a cool place called Stone Laboratory.

We spent a great day with two 12-year-olds, an 11-year-old, and eight-year-old grandchildren at Put in Bay on South Bass Island. We weren't 100% sure the kids would enjoy it there, but we attempted it. First of all, they loved the Stone Laboratory, such fun. We had a good lunch at the Blue Marlin Bar and Grill. The perch baskets were tremendous, and the kids loved their chicken wings. Riding all over the island in a six-seat golf cart was entertaining and airy on a sizzling day. The kids, despite their "advanced ages," loved the playground in the park by the bay so much that we had to stop three times for them to do so.

In September 2022, my wifey and I spent a soothing day at Put-In-Bay, Ohio, on an island in Lake Erie just to the north of Port Clinton/Catawba Island. Put-In-Bay/South Bass Island impressed me as a mini-version of Mackinac Island, except cars are permitted here (but not recommended). Some ferry boats to Put-In-Bay reduced their schedules in September, so we took the Miller Ferry to the isle as pedestrians. The transit duration was around 20 minutes. We liked seeing the Stone Laboratory and distant Gibraltar Island.

My hubby and I brought our 3-year-old son to Put-in-Bay for the 4th of July. It was our first time, and we had a wonderful tour! We took the Miller's Ferry over to South Bass Island. Children 5 and underneath are free. Ferry has a principal deck, and our son LOVED it. The ride was about 20-25 min. We had reserved a 4-passenger golf cart from Put-in-Bay Golf Cart Rentals a couple of evenings beforehand, but they said they keep a surplus for "walk-ups". They were the most affordable and had the most excellent golf carts. We visited Stone Laboratory and the Butterfly House(SO neat!). We also journeyed to Perry's Cave which was ok, I've been on more reasonable, but it was neat. Stairs down to the cave are narrow and get steep, and it's about 50 degrees. We ate lunch at the Upper Deck Restaurant off Bayview. It was right in the middle of everything, and I got to eat waterfront. Food and service were good. Spinach dip is Amazing!!

Our recent journey (my second) to Small Bass Island, home of Put-In-Bay, surpassed my anticipations for entertainment! There was an abundance of golf carts and bicycles to lease, restaurants and pubs in which to eat and drink, shops to look for unique gifts and souvenirs and places of interest encouraging activities and exploring places like Stone Laboratory. It really seemed like the "Key West" of Ohio! It was clean, well-organized, and welcoming. The people in the different service functions (waitstaff, hosts, bartenders, and clerks) were all pleasant, experienced, and well-trained. I was also pleased to see multiple families participating in the various attractions there.

We brought the ferryboat across and saw the island on a Monday. It was slow in the morning, and the arriving visitors picked up negligibly around lunchtime. We leased a rental golf cart and went all over the island, which was nice. Stone Laboratory was our first stop of the day and did not disappoint. The kids really liked seeing it.

South Bass Island Put-in-bay is an incredibly lovely place that we visited during our visit in Ohio. So many restaurants and bars are there full of people. Everyone enjoys the roads by traveling in Golf cars, which are readily available for rent. Be sure to check out Stone Laboratory,
