The warm weather Put-in-Bay Fishing season starts when the Put-in-Bay winter ice fishing season recedes. Anglers begin taking walleyes from western basin reefs, Maumee Bay and Sandusky Bay. Yellow perch fishing is also very productive, including many limit catches. Many Put-in-Bay hotels, resorts, and vacation home rentals offer reduced rates in the spring and fall for anglers wishing to enjoy the thrill of fishing the Put-in-Bay island and its surrounding waters. In the winter, one resort, the Bay Lodging Resort, welcomes ice fishermen for short or extended stays.
Sports fishing at Put-in-Bay and surrounding lake Erie rivals that on any other lake in the country. Walleye, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, and steelhead trout fishing are all abundant and you couldn’t ask for a better or more versatile fishery than Lake Erie and the shoals around Put-in-Bay. Anglers come here from all over the US and Canada for the fertile fishing grounds. Put-in-Bay has numerous boat docks and marinas to accommodate anglers and their fishing rigs. The South Bass Island State Park has a large parking area as well as a public boat ramp and camping options.
