Many meals that you like are available all the time. If you want a cheeseburger or pizza, there’s no lack of locations to call. But for particular things, you have to enjoy them when they’re obtainable. Pig roasts and not found everywhere every day, for instance.
The same is true with a clambake! So if you’re fortunate enough to be at Put-in-Bay, Ohio, in September, make your way over to DiRivera Park downtown between 12 PM and 6 PM and savor one of the wonderful rare culinary delights, a clambake! For over 47 years in a row, the Put-in-Bay Volunteer Fire Department clambake has taken place, and all profits go towards modernizing the fire department’s gear, so you’ll be dining on clams and chicken for a cause!
The clambake dinners that you’ll enjoy from the Fire Department will make for the ideal picnic feast. Many people carry it away to one of the many beautiful spots on the island for a picnic, or you can enjoy it at tables and at DeRivera Park, where the event is held, just a short stroll away. Oak Point State Park is another location public nearby. Of course, you could also take it back to your vacation rental villa home or hotel!
If you are curious about coming up to the island the weekend of the clambake, it would be wonderful to stop in for a plate for lunch or dinner on Saturday. It’ll be a fantastic meal, and the earnings go to a wonderful community cause! Of course, no one is arriving on the island just for the clambake.
Fortunately, things are going on all over the island to fill a whole weekend and more! You can kayak around the lake or rent jet skis. You can check out not one but two fantastic caverns, one with a subterranean lake and one with the world’s biggest geode! I’ll bet you didn’t anticipate that. The Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial is one of the loftiest monuments in the United States, and that’s at Put-in-Bay as well! All that’s left to do is to check out our lodging resource page and find the perfect spot to stay, and book your golf cart rentals!
If your not able to make this great event consider coming the following weekend for the Put-in-Bay Wine Festival!
