Senior Center News February 2017 Whats Happening On The Rock
Boy doesn’t time fly by fast … where did the month of January go? The Seniors were busy enjoying a “Soup & Show” evening together, a “Winter Barn Party” and a “Senior Social” at Tippers in addition to our regularly scheduled activities. We have a couple of special events planned for February as well: On Feb. 5th, we’ll be enjoying a “Snacks & Super Bowl Tailgate Social” while we watch the SuperBowl, then on Feb. 14th at 1:45 p.m., the Put-in-Bay School French Class will be putting on Valentine’s Day Program for us here at the Senior Center.
Remember, during the offseason, a “Soup and a Show”, “Wii Bowling,” or similar activity is added at least once a month but is often not planned far enough in advance to make this publication. Check out the calendars posted at the Senior Center, General Store, PostOffice, and Twp. Office or Library for any extra last-minute activities in February! The Put-in-Bay Senior Center always looks for more people to participate in our activities. Please feel free to stop by and join us anytime.
Our Senior Lunches are served at 12 noon every Thurs- day at Tippers. Please make your reservation by 12 p.m. on Wednesday, either by signing up at the Senior Center or by calling the center at (419) 285-5501. Let Tipper’s Kitchen know the lunch count by 12 p.m. Wednesday so they can plan accordingly for these delicious and fun senior lunches!
The good people at the EMS continue to take Blood Pressure every Monday at 10 a.m. This is an excellent service they provide, so feel free to come in and get yours checked. The “60+ Clinic” is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 23rd. The Ottawa County Health Dept provides this free health clinic for those 60 and older. If you’d like to take advantage of this excellent program, please call 419-734-6800 to make your appointment.
Last month we were so thankful to the Put-in-Bay Ferry for running the boats during our mid-January thaw! Everyone hurried to stock up on additional groceries and get in a few overdue appointments! As we enter the heart of the winter season though, many here on the island are keeping their fingers crossed that Mother Nature cooperates so we can enjoy some ice fishing and other fun winter sports!
Keeping active is vital for both our mental and physical health. If we’re moving, and it doesn’t matter how fast or hard … whether grocery shopping or ice fishing … keep it up, and you’ll begin to enjoy all the incredible health benefits of being active!!
