Put-in-Bay Senior Center News March 2017
Welcome to March! It’s still hard to believe that old man winter never arrived this year. Thanks to the boats running unusually early, everyone’s been dealing with the lack of snow and ice by keeping busy indoors or traveling to the mainland! In February, The Put-in-Bay Senior Center hosted several events that were all well attended.
We had a great time at the Put-in-Bay Senior Center, cheering on our favorite teams during the “Snack-n- Super Bowl” Tailgate Social. We were also visited by Mrs. Rence and her French class for some Valentine’s Day fun!
In March, we’re planning a couple “Wii Bowling & Pizza nights on Tuesday, March 7th, and Tuesday at the Put-in-Bay Senior Center March 28th – both will start at 6 p.m. Then on Friday, March 31st, at 5 p.m. we’re having a special event “Tony’s Flashback Friday” … come reminisce with us and share your favorite Put-in-Bay Island stories. Don’t forget to bring a friend!!! We have a bit of everything going on here at the Center!
Our activities at the Put-in-Bay Senior Center include Aerobic Dance, Strength Training, Coffee Socials (with free coffee and munchies), Yoga, Aqua-Motion, Mah Jongg, and Bridge. Check out the calendars posted at the Senior Center, Put-in-Bay General Store, Post Office, Twp. Office, and the Put-in-Bay Library.
The Put-in-Bay Senior Center is always looking for more people to participate in our activities; please feel free to stop by and join us anytime. Don’t forget, our Senior Lunches are held at Tipper’s every Thursday at Noon. Registering your spot by signing up at the Senior Center or calling the Center at (419) 285-5501 to make a reservation is essential. We must let Tipper’s Restaurant Kitchen know the count of those planning to attend by noon on Wednesday, so please make your reservation for these delicious and fun Senior Lunches!
The Put-in-Bay EMS takes Blood Pressure every Monday at 10 a.m. during the Coffee Social. Feel free to get yours checked, as this is a great service that they provide. If you would like to take advantage of the Senior 60+ Clinic, a free supplemental program to your regular physician’s care, please call (419) 734- 6800 to make your appointment.
This free program is provided by the Ottawa County Health Department for those 60 and over and is held at the Put-in-Bay Senior Center every 4th Thursday of the month; this makes travel more accessible and saves you time and money. The date for March is Thursday, the 23rd. The clinic provides essential services to people aged 60 and over, such as blood pressure screening, blood tests for anemia, blood sugar and cholesterol screening, weight and diet information, and health and medication counseling/education at no charge.
Through a comprehensive assessment, a nurse will answer any questions and provide education or referrals to private physicians if needed.
We want to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to The Crew’s Nest for keeping the water so wonderfully warm during these cold winter months … The equation group sure appreciates it!!! It’s been wonderful having Jessica Karhoff back with us this winter. She’s been working hard to finish her college internship at the Senior Center.
We’ve all enjoyed her smile, and it’s great having an extra set of hands and someone to bounce ideas around with!! The Put-in-Bay Senior Center staff wishes everyone a sunny warm March as we officially welcome Spring!
