The Wake

This longtime Put-in-Bay tradition The Wake, celebrates the passing of another summer season. Join friends and islanders for a fun-filled weekend, one of the last of the season! The Wake main festivities occur Saturday night at the Roundhouse Bar.
Guests pay a modest entry fee to go through the “haunted” hotel and pay their respects to the 2023 season, which is commemorated by a casket, before making their way into the bar for fun, drink, and great entertainment.

The Wake is an island tradition dating back over 36 years. It continues again this year at Put-in-Bay. The Wake is a unique event celebrating the end of another prosperous Put-in-Bay summertime season.
The Round House Bar hosts the event, and the Hotel turns into a Haunted House. Enjoy your trip through the Hotel, coming across a coffin for this summer at the Bay as we put it to burial. Once you’ve reached the Hotel, you’ll head into the Round House Bar for one more night of ice-cold drinks, Put-in-Bay’s famous live entertainment, and a party climate.
Homecoming and The Wake
The Wake is a perfect fit for another novel tradition happening on Put-in-Bay this weekend, Homecoming. Annual workers from prior years head up to the island for Homecoming Weekend, reliving their excellent times had while working at the Bay. A pub crawl is one of the highlights of the celebration, and otherwise, it’s just a fabulous time to be had by all.
Most vacationers only know about the ‘summer’ Put-in-Bay, the lively spot with great beaches, shopping, and nightlife, the ultimate Midwest holiday getaway. But it’s quite an unconventional place come wintertime. The lake freezes over, the ferries can’t run, and about 650 full-time residents bunker down for winter with one pub and eatery, a grocery store and gas station, and nothing else. If they want to get to the mainland, they have to fly! It’s a very unique lifestyle, a far cry from the exciting summer season.
Remember, if you’ve already made Halloween plans, Homecoming Weekend marks your last opportunity to get up to Put-in-Bay again before it closes down for the year.
