Mass Times Mother of Sorrows Church – 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays and 10:30 a.m. on Sundays; Middle Bass – 8:30 a.m. on Sundays; and St. Michael’s Kelleys Island – 4 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. Sundays.

BINGO-Looking for excitement on your Wednesday nights? Join us for BINGO in the Put-in-Bay Town Hall. Put-in-Bay Church BINGO begins every Wednesday night at 8 p.m. and you must be 18 years of age or accompanied by an adult. These nights are always an excellent opportunity for fun and fellowship.

The 5K at Put-in-Bay– Like to run? Register now for the 14th annual Put-in-Bay 5K on Saturday, September 16th. This 5K is one of the most significant 5K events in all of North Central Ohio. It brings up to 800 runners, plus hundreds of friends and relatives, to the Island annually. There is also a 1 Mile Walk for non-runners.

It is always a beautiful time of the year to be on Put-in-Bay Island and take in its natural beauty. Mother of Sorrows would like to especially thank Susan Byrnes as the original founder of the event, as well to Bob Reuter for his years of coordination. We would also like to thank Kris Miller and Reni Miller for accepting the responsibility of coordinating this terrific event. To register, visit www.5katputinbay.com Lodging discounts are provided by the Bay Lodging Resort on Put-in-Bay.

Island Hospitality-Join us every Sunday for our hospitality after 10:30 a.m. Mass in the Corner Stone room. This relaxing time is an excellent opportunity to catch up with folks, meet new friends, and enjoy some pastries and coffee. The Corner Stone room is connected to Mother of Sorrow’s Church, and it can be accessed by following the sidewalk along the north side (i.e., the left side as you face the front façade).

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Reach Into Posterity-At Put-in-Bay; we are fortunate to have all we have because of the generosity of those who came before us. At Mother of Sorrows, we offer our gratitude and prayers to these folks through our memorial benches located around the outside perimeter of the church, where some of the names of the loved ones that we especially pay tribute to and remember are inscribed. Have a loved one recognized by getting their name engraved on one of these beautiful benches. Please contact Joan E. Booker – at 419-341-3542 or jeab285@aol.com

Mother of Sorrows’ Memorial Carillon- Visit our Carillon and Bell Tower Shrine. The shrine was erected in 1983 in remembrance of Duane Dress, Bruce Mettler, Robert Rigoni, and Michael Sweeney of the Put-In-Bay Emergency Medical Team. These brave men died in an airplane crash during an emergency medical mission from Put-in-Bay to Kelleys Island.

The Carillon’s serene melody reminds us of our first responders’ sacrificial dedication and our Lord’s loving care. If you want to escape from the summer festivities, the Carillon shrine provides an excellent space for quiet reflection and meditation.

St. Paul’s Church News

All are welcome at Put-in-Bay St. Paul’s monthly worship and activities. There will be another Labyrinth orientation at 10:30 a.m. on July 19th. Stop by the office (behind the church) Tuesday through Friday to see what is happening. Drop in for a church tour and learn how it is connected to Put-in-Bay island history.

St. Paul’s had a variety of activities in June! Root beer floats in the park on Founder’s Day, a parish celebration on Pentecost, the employee welcome and soup supper, several history tours, and the regular parish activities. The Put-in-Bay food pantry continues to assist those who need it thanks to a number of donors on the island, last year’s donation from the Barber Shoppers, and a grant from the Diocese
of Ohio.

Faith Conversations in July: At 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons in July, we will talk about various Christian traditions that grew between the 4th and 15th centuries. It will be an opportunity to ask those questions you have always wondered about. Why do bishops in the Anglican tradition have differently shaped hats than the Orthodox Bishops?

How many of our prayers come from the same beginnings? When an why do we use different colors? Did you know an Episcopal priest could be prosecuted by their bishops for offenses such as using candles on the altar, crosses, and vestments, and such practices as adding water to the wine and hearing confessions? Come and share a lively conversation about the various ways we all worship and discover how we are more flexible and tolerant in our worship today.

Welcome Soup Supper for Put-in-Bay Summer Employees– St. Paul’s outreach committee gathered several people to help stuff 200 welcome bags for island employees. The new employees were invited to a soup supper where the bags were distributed, and various people came to talk to them about Put-in-Bay activities like bicycle repairs and getting a bank account.

St. Paul’s outreach committee also allowed employees to pick up some household items they might need in the employee dorms and see our food pantry. We hope everyone read the page inside the bag that offered employees an opportunity to win a free meal in June, July, and August.
