Put-in-Bay Sailing-Free Learn to Sail Clinic-The Put-in-Bay Yacht Club will again be putting on for the third year in a row a FREE
Learn-to-Sail and/or Improve Your Learning Skills Sailing Clinic on Saturday, June 25th, at 9 a.m. (Please register at 8:30 a.m.).
This is open to members and non-members, so just show up and bring a PFD.
The Sailing Clinic will be sailed on Hobie Waves, a small, single-sail, 13-foot catamaran which will be provided by the Wave Class
Members of the yacht club. There will be chalk talks, video, and on-the-water training. The format from Rick White’s Sailing Seminars will be used, which was originated in 1989, has graduated over 3000 sailors, most of whom are usually in the winner’s circle, and was used to coach at least eight Olympic Medalists.
The course is broken down into segments, and then drills on the water will be used to practice those various segments. By the end of the day, the students will put it all together and be accomplished sailors. The coaches will be on several power boats advising the students throughout the day. And they really know what they are talking about. Fleet is loaded with sailboat racing talent, with three World Champs, five National Champs, and four North American Champs. And we want to use that talent to teach others how to sail.
The clinic is open to all ages and all talent levels! from beginners to novices to advanced racers (all will gain a lot from the course) You may ask why it is FREE? So we can get more people into sailing at Put-in-Bay! The more the merrier. Then a Regatta the Following Weekend… A week later, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29th, the yacht club will be putting on the Men Regatta, a round-robin, fun-sailing event. Hopefully, with all the new talented sailors we will have on the island after taking the Clinic the previous week, there will be an excellent turnout.
If you are interested in finding out about how much fun sailing at Put-in-Bay can be, you might want to talk to Mella Davies from Shore Villas. She looks like she is having fun! Hobie Waves will again be provided. Just bring yourself and a PFD. The regatta, however, will be for members of the club, or those joining the club.
