BIRTHS Audrey Nicole Blumensaadt-Congratulations to Alex Taylor Blumensaadt Of Put-in-Bay and Christine Marie Reynolds on the birth of a 7 lb. 14 oz. daughter, Audrey Nicole, on May 11th. Alex works at Put-in-Bay Investments. Island grandparents are Todd & Jennifer Blumensaadt and Alexa Kirsch. Great-grandmother is former island resident Virginia Blumensaadt of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

GRADUATED Sabrina Brown the daughter of former Put-in-Bay Resorts Brad and Sharon Brown graduated from Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University in May. Sabrina attended Put-in-Bay School when the family lived on the island.

Karina Kowalski (Put-in-Bay High School Class of 2013) graduated Summa Cum Laude from Wittenberg University majoring in History with a minor in Theater. Karina graduated with University Honors, Departmental Honors in History and in the honor societies of Mortar Board, Phi BetaKappa, Alpha Lambda Delta & Phi Alpha Theta. She will be interning this summer on Nantucket, working in their Whaling Museum. In the fall she will be in a graduate program for Masters of Arts in Museum Studies at SUNY Oneonta in Cooperstown, New York.

Congratulations to Ellen Snyder who graduated from the Ohio State University on May 7, 2017 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics. Her proud parents are Steve and Denise Snyder, grandparents Denny and Joan Kempf and Great Grandmother Jeanne Hildebrandt. Ellen is a 6th generation Put-in-Bay summer resident who has worked as a Put-in-Bay Summer Community Sailing instructor and with Frosty’s breakfast crew during her collegiate summer breaks.

Wyatt Hildebrandt Auger, Put-in-Bay High  School Class 2013, graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tiffin  University, majoring in Government & National Security. Currently, he is with the U.S. Marshals in Cleveland. Wyatt is the son of Greg and Anne Auger from Put-in-Bay’s East Point.

David Kniffen (Put-in-Bay High School ‘97) graduated at the end of April from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a bachelors of arts degree. He double majored in film production and journalism, with a minor in communications. He was recognized as Summa Cum Laude(with highest distinction) for his GPA. During his final year, he took on an internship with the University’s media department to produce a weekly documentary series called Michigan Crossroads.

His work there earned him the University’s Intern of the year for 2016. David is considering entering law school in the fall of 2018 and applying to U of M and Harvard Law School David previously graduated Put-in-Bay High School twenty years prior in 1997 and ventured into business ownership before going back to school in 2011 earning associates degrees in photography, business, and history.

Donna Glisman, longtime Put-in-Bay Resident graduated from Oakland Community College in Michigan in May with two associates degrees, one in photography and the other in history. Donna had previously graduated from high school in Detroit in 1959. She had taken several college courses over the years, but never completed a degree.

Donna had made the Dean’s list nearly every semester and graduated cum laude. She is considering transferring to a four-year university in fall and pursuing a bachelors degree. Donna and her son David Kniffen (previous announcement), both completed degree programs for the graduating class of 2017, (although different schools), making them the island’s first two generational (parent-child) college graduates in the same year. Put-in-Bay News will be covering more on this story in another article.

ENGAGED Mitchell W. Blumensaadt (Put-in-Bay High School Class of 2013) and Erika Alyse Wertenbach (Put-in-Bay High School Class of 2011) became engaged to be married on May 8th.

MARRIED Austin Bolyard and Caitlin Market (Put-in-Bay High School Class of 2010) were married April 29th, 2017 at the Boardwalk’s Upper Deck on Put-in-Bay. Caitlin is from Put-in-Bay and Austin is from Oak Harbor. They met ten years ago when Austin started working at the Park Bike Rental and Caitlin worked at the Boathouse. Their wedding party included close friends and family from both sides. After the wedding festivities were over the bride and groom were able to celebrate their honeymoon on a cruise to the Southern Caribbean.

CELEBRATING Put-in-Bay News is happy to report Scott Jackson, the owner of the Goat Soup & Whiskey, will reach the half-century mark on Sunday, June 11th. To celebrate, Scott has invited everyone who has a birthday (that’s most people) to come to his Birthday Extravaganza at the Boathouse Bar & Grill on Sunday evening, June 11th, at 5 p.m. The Big Band, Swing Mania, will perform, plus at 9 p.m., Calabash will perform. Please come and enjoy an island evening of fun before the season shifts into high gear! We will have news coverage of this event next month.
