#1 BUS DRIVER ON PUT-IN-BAY Final results are in from the island bus rider poll taken over the past two or three months. The overall choice for the title of “Best Bus Driver on South Bass Island” is Pamela Gruetter from Island Transportation. The poll asked riders to rate their bus riding experience here on the island from 1 to 10. Pam had an overall average of 9.5 out of 10. The next closest bus driver scored 7.5. Pam took top scores for service, safety, courtesy, and bus cleanliness.

Her patrons also said she was more regularly “on time” than the other drivers. More than one rider commented that her driving skills were impeccable. The only negative comment she had in the entire polling was one rider wrote he liked the cigar aroma in one of the other busses he had ridden in. When the other drivers were notified about Pam winning her honor, no one was surprised at the results and even agreed she deserved the top honor. Congratulations, Pam! Job well done!

SUCCESSFUL! Siblings Erika Suttmann Crossley (Put-in-Bay High School Class of 2001) and Louis Suttmann (Put-in-Bay High School Class of 2005) recently finished the 100km ultra-marathon we featured in a Put-in-Bay Gazette story. The 26+ hour adventure challenged them in ways they did not expect. They would like to thank all those who supported their experience. Erika lives in England, and Louis lives in Austria.

NEW BOOK Long-time island summer resident John Briggle has released a book titled “Why Am I Here?” available on Amazon.com. It is an essential book for everyone to read, then pass on as we struggle in this broken world in which we live.

An easy read but deep in context, it covers such topical issues like evil in this world, why bad things happen to good people, bullying, suicide, and eventually finding one’s identity. The book offers insight into some fundamental questions that we have all asked at one time or another, including the namesake of the book, Why Am I Here? It may be a life-changing read for you or someone else.

PUT-IN-BAY DROWNING At the end of June, a young man visiting from India drowned after he fell off the dock at the Put-in-Bay State Park. The man was no match for the big waves coming from the southwest. A few days earlier, a man drowned at one of the Put-in-Bay Docks downtown after falling from his boat. The family of a man traumatically injured in a fight at the Jet Express Ferry Dock in September 2016 is suing the owner of the Jet Express, his son, and the Jet Express. The family is alleging a variety of claims. The case was investigated, but according to reports, witnesses that night tell various stories, and no one has ever been charged.

Jim and Jan Anteau became grandparents again in July. Middy and Dave Church became great-grandparents in July. Congrats to you all! The Middle Bass Island Forested Wetland Preserve dedication will be at Fox Rd. Location at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 5th, with a cake reception following at the Middle Bass Island State Park Pavilion.

Our Put-in-Bay News prediction for one year from now is that everyone will be happy about “Christmas in July 2019 Canceled” because the numerous law enforcement officers on the island this year scared everyone from coming back again.
