Library News February 2017What You May Have Missed

February is the time to show how much you care about the one you love. We love our Library patrons and want to show our appreciation through diverse activities this month for all ages.

Chocolate Fest – Feb. 4th Erie Islands Library will be holding its annual “Chocolate Fest” on Saturday, February 4th. If you are interested in vying for the title of “Chocolate Champ of Put-in-Bay for 2017,” call the library today to register! The only requirement is that your entry must contain chocolate. We ask that entries be brought to the library at 10:00 a.m. for display. Voting by patrons will start at 10:30 a.m., with one vote allowed per patron. Due to Ottawa County Health Dept. regulations, there will not be a charge to taste but donations will be gladly accepted.

Bingo – Feb. 7th BINGO! The ever-popular “Bingo for Books” will be held on Tuesday, February 7th, at 4:30 p.m. in the school multi-purpose room. We have the cards and books for prizes. You come for an evening of fun! Lots of great books to choose from when a “BINGO” is called! Everyone goes home a winner! It is suggested that participants know how to play Bingo and how to read numbers from 1 to 75. Younger patrons may want to have a parent or caregiver stay to assist.

Repurpose a Book – Feb. 8th Mark your calendars so you don’t miss Librarian Sue Duff’s “Repurpose a Book” Workshop at Erie Islands Library on Wednesday, February 8th at 1 p.m. Sue will provide all the materials to make an amazing Photo/Recipe/Note Holder using an old book. If you have a favorite book you’d like to repurpose, please bring it with you or choose one of Sue’s. While you enjoy making this incredible craft, feel free to brew a hot beverage (coffee, tea, or hot cocoa). Adults only, please.

Book Swaps – Feb. 14th Do you have a gently used book that you have finished enjoying? We will have two Book Swaps on Tuesday, February 14th. From 4:30-5:00 p.m., Preschool through Grade 3 will swap items, and from 5:00-5:30 p.m., Grades 4-6 will swap items. Wrap your once-loved, gently used book in any wrapping paper and bring it to Erie Islands Library. It should be lots of fun! Everyone goes home with a new book to read!

Coffee Time – Feb. 15th Back by popular demand! Need a break? Come to Erie Islands Library on Wednesday, February 15th, at 1:00 p.m. and relax with a cup of coffee and a cookie or two while you color your worries away with our adult coloring books. Visit with friends and neighbors. Invite your own friends to come along! We supply coloring books and colored pencils. You bring your imagination. Sorry, but this event is intended for adults only.

Movie Night – Feb. 16th The monthly “Movie Night” on Thursday, February 16th at 5 p.m. will feature the classic “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.” Families and kids of all ages are invited to join Librarian Miss Jessica. Pizza from the Blu Luna Restaurant will be served as a special treat.

Leather Crafts – Feb. 21st Students in grades 6 through 12 are invited to the library on Tuesday, February 21st, at 5:00 p.m. to design their leather wristband. The library will supply the wristbands, stamping tools, and dye. You will need to bring your imagination and creativity! Blu Luna pizza will be served. Limit 10 participants, so register early!

Baking Treats Every Saturday during February and March, the librarians will be baking special treats for our special patrons. Stop by for yours while you leisurely browse for a book, DVD, or audio.
