Put-in-Bay School News December 2017

School News December 2017 The Harvest Dinner on November 3rd was a huge success. Over 290 dinners were served, with the proceeds going to the Gustav Heineman Scholarship. This amounted to $2,279 this year! We want to thank the many businesses who donated food and the Niese family for allowing us to use Tipper’s Lounge. We especially want to recognize the efforts of Woody Widmar, who worked in the kitchen for two days preparing the delicious turkey meal.Put-in-Bay school news December 2017 photo of harvest dinner

Congratulations to our National Honor Society for collecting 203 pounds of candy for “Operation Gratitude,” an organization that sends care packages filled with hygiene products, handmade items, snacks, and letters of appreciation to U.S. troops, first responders, veterans, military families, and wounded heroes and their caregivers.

The Put-in-Bay High School Environmental Club would like to send out a big “Thank You!” to the students and community members that helped make the 4th annual pie bake-off fundraiser a lip-smacking success. Not a crumb was left at the end of the competition, and only a few votes separated the prize winners: Cody Kowalski, Karen Burris, Tatey Kowalski, and Lisa Brohl. Prizes were donated by Yard Works, The Crews Nest, the Sand Bar, and The Perry Group.

In school news on the sports front, our basketball teams have their home opener on Saturday, December 2nd, against Mansfield Temple Christian. Coach Schuffenecker returns several talented players from last year, including seniors Justin Wilhelm and Erin Urge. Go Panthers! The Put-in-Bay Recreation Committee hosts “Breakfast with Santa” on Sunday, December 10, at 11:30 a.m. at the Town Hall.

Our annual holiday concert is scheduled for Tuesday, December 19th, at 7 p.m. We are seeking parent volunteers to help open and maintain the ice rink. From snow removal to watering, drying out, and coiling hoses to ice repair… this is not a one-person job. Please contact Steve Poe at the school if you can help with the ice rink. We are also looking for parents to help monitor and supervise the ice rink when it is in use.

The last day of school before winter break is a full day on Wednesday, December 20th. We return on Wednesday, January 3rd. We want to advise all parents to keep their telephones close by on mornings when there is “questionable” weather. We will again announce delays and closings this year via our “School Messenger” instant messaging system.
