Put-in-Bay School News May 2015 by Steve Poe, Superintendent

Five of our students recently returned from Hawaii. Our two seniors; Elliot Kowalski and Gunnar Auger invited our three juniors; Meredith Engel, Jessica Krueger, and Ian Pippert-Ladd to join them on their senior class trip. These two classes had much in common and had similar financial resources from class fundraisers, so it made sense to allow them to travel together. Reporting back after the trip, the students shared photos and stories from their adventures to places such as Pearl Harbor and the Dole Plantation. Thanks are in order for chaperones Carl and Chris Krueger!Picture of Put-in-Bay School News May 2015 Trip

It is hard to believe we are preparing for the end of another school year. The Spring Concert is scheduled for Thursday, May 14th, at 7 p.m. and the annual Awards Day is set for Thursday, May 28th. These two programs are sure signs that we are closing in on another school year. Completing the school year will be Graduation on Friday, June 5th at 7 p.m. at the Perry Monument.

Addressing this year’s graduating class will be Jacqueline (Wilhelm) Boyed. Jacqueline is the daughter of island residents Mark and Karen Wilhelm and is a 2005 graduate of Put-in-Bay School. She was Valedictorian of her high school class. Upon high school graduation, she attended the University of Findlay (UF) to study physical therapy.

She currently resides in Kettering, Ohio with her husband Dustin Boyed and their dog, Skylar. She is an outpatient physical therapist at Miami Valley Hospital with Premier Health. Pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten Screening is scheduled for the morning of Friday, May 29th. Letters will be sent to explain the details. The week of May 4th is Staff Appreciation Week. Our teachers and support staff do a fantastic job and we want to thank them for their hard work and dedication. We are blessed to have such a talented group of professionals in our school system. The next time you see one of them, maybe say, “thank you.”

On Friday, May 22nd, the school will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. for Memorial Day weekend
