Put in Bay Library News for July 2017 features updates on the Put in Bay Summer Reading Challenge.

Our Summer Reading Challenge is in full swing! To date, fifty patrons have enrolled to “Build a Better World.” It’s not too late for you to sign up. Come to the Put in Bay library today! The last day of the program to submit raffle tickets is Saturday, July 15th.

Walking Club- The Put in Bay Island Library Walking Club will continue through July on Wednesdays at 9 a.m. Meet us at the library entrance to “Build a Better You!”

Book Sale-Our Annual Friends of the Library Book Sale will be held Thursday, July 6th through Saturday, July 8th. Stop by Thursday 1-7 p.m., Friday 10-4, or Saturday 10-12. Great deals on great books! All proceeds benefit Friends of the Library, which sponsor our Summer Reading Challenge and speakers throughout the year.

Haunted Put in Bay Facebook is abuzz with the news that author William Krejci will visit on Monday, July 10th at 2 p.m. Mr. Krejci is the author of Haunted Put-in-Bay. Copies of the book are available for check out at the Put in Bay library, or if interested, signed copies will be available for purchase during this author’s visit. Don’t miss hearing the exciting tales of the mysterious ghosts of Put in Bay!

Couponing-Back by popular demand! Librarian Gay Pippert will be presenting her “Couponing with Gay” ideas on Tuesday, July 11th at 5 p.m. Learn how you can save literally hundreds of dollars a year at stores or online by using the coupon hints Gay will share.

Nature Story Time-Our summer edition of Nature Story Time will be held on Wednesday, July 12th at the Put in Bay Butterfly House Pavilion at 11 a.m. and Wednesday, July 26th; location and time will be announced two weeks prior. Stories, finger plays, and crafts for everyone! Parents or caregivers are asked to stay with their children during the program.

Basic Computer Skills-Do you need to learn some of the basic computer skills: How to search? How to use email? How to use a flash drive? Join University of Dayton’s IT Specialist Dustin Boyed on Saturday, July 15th at 10 a.m. to find out how to do basic computer skills. If time, individual questions can be addressed.

Connex Kits- If your child loves to putter with electrical circuits and to put things together, they will love coming to the Put in Bay library on Tuesday, July 18th at 4 p.m. to assemble one of the available Connex kits. Work with others to build a Magnetic Alarm, an H2O Pump, or a Maze Challenge. Participants will choose the kit to be assembled. Completed kits will be displayed at the library.

Trail Magic-Peter Huston has agreed to do a repeat performance of his Emmy-nominated “Trail Magic: The Story of Grandma Gatewood” on Tuesday, July 18th at 7 p.m. at the OSU Aquatic Center. If you missed this exciting story last year of the woman who hiked the Appalachian Trail not once but three times, mark your calendar now! Excellent production, and congratulations to Mr. Huston and his team for the Emmy nomination!

Dr. Insecta, Ready to touch a bug? Tour a termite’s mound or see inside a hornet’s nest? Dr. Insecta will be on the island Wednesday, July 19th at 11 a.m. to “Build a Better World” by taking you to realms rarely visited by humans. Get bugged as Dr. Insecta guides you into how insects live. Free giveaways for every child! Fun for all ages!

Movie and Popcorn Night will be held on Thursday, July 20th, at 5 p.m. The family-oriented film will be announced two weeks before the showing.

Do you enjoy making crafts? Want to try something new? We will stamp and die your choice of leather key fobs, bookmarks, and leather coasters on Tuesday, July 25th at 5 p.m. All supplies will be furnished. This activity is intended for grades 4 through adults. Just come for fun!

Adult Coloring Books-Calling all adults! Build a Better You by relaxing on Wednesday, July 26th at 1 p.m. with one of our adult coloring books. Choose from several designs to color a unique creation that will inspire you. Pencils are provided. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while you color your worries away!
