Put-in-Bay Police Chief Hired
The Put-in-Bay Village Council met on Friday, February 17th, and voted to approve a new Put-in-Bay Police Chief. Mayor Mack McCann’s recommendation for Put-in-Bay Police Chief Steve Riddle was announced. McCann reportedly had a few other applicants for the job and recommended Riddle. Steve Riddle, who retired from the State of Ohio after many years managing the South Bass Island State Park, was hired last year as Put-in-Bay Village’s Village Administrator. When former Put-in-Bay Police Chief Michael Frank resigned early last fall, it left the Put-in-Bay without a chief. Riddle was eventually named interim police chief while performing his duties as Village Administrator. Riddle was approved with a three-to-one vote.
Two members of the Council were on vacation and were not at the meeting. Riddle is now interim Village Administrator and police chief. He will handle both positions until a new Village Administrator can be found. Put-in-Bay Police Chief Riddle is also on a six-month probationary period through the summer season.
Council will then vote to keep him on the job permanently if they are satisfied with his performance. The probationary period is required for all Put-in-Bay police officers who are hired on a full-time basis.
In other Village Council news, there are two applications for business licenses of interest. One is for a Put-in-Bay doctor who has a condo at Banyan Cove and wants to make house calls on the island. The other is for a company that wants to operate a quadricycle/party bike on the island. The promoter says the multi-passenger pedaled bikes are commonly used by corporations for team building or retreat activities, wedding parties, birthday parties, family reunions, exercise groups, sightseers, etc.
Council is also looking into what might be done with the Frederick property on Erie St., which was recently purchased. Plans call
